As you begin your journey on how to learn to play the guitar, there are important things that I don’t want you to miss.

1. Begin by SETTING up your GOALS

Life is full of SETTING OF GOALS. These goals hold us ACCOUNTABLE for everything we accomplish in life. Goals assist us evaluate our ACHIEVEMENTS. They also point out what our potential weaknesses are and push us into wanting to CORRECT the mistakes we have made in life.

In guitar training, SETTING OF GOALS will help you evaluate your SUCCESS as well as FAILURES. I’d like you to BEGIN by asking yourself these questions: – Why do you want to learn how to play the guitar? How long do you want to take? How much time do you have everyday? For what reason/purpose are you learning the guitar?

2. Get yourself a GUITAR

You need to have a guitar AVAILABLE with you when you need it. This is obviously because YOU NEED it for the lessons. If you have one already, that is fantastic. If you don’t have it and you wan’t to begin your classes of learning to play the guitar then you need to MAKE PLANS on having it.

You can either BORROW somebody or you can PURCHASE YOUR OWN guitar. In most cases if your environment is like mine, its hard to get someone to borrow so the best option is to invest in PURCHASING your guitar. I’ve written some GUIDE LINES on THE BEST GUITAR FOR BEGINNERS.

3. Familiarize yourself with the PARTS OF A GUITAR

A guitar has got different PARTS which play different ROLES. You must learn each part and what role it plays. Knowing the parts of the guitar and their roles will definitely QUICKEN your learning process.

4. Start by knowing HOW TO TUNE THE GUITAR

This is an important step in learning how to play the guitar. The melodious sound of a guitar is NOT obvious. The guitar must be TUNED to produce that sound you normally hear.

See the lesson on HOW TO TUNE THE GUITAR. Something else I’d like to point out is that tuning the guitar is an ART which is DEVELOPED and LEARNED.Tuning-the-acoustic-guitar-by-a-tuner

5. Know the BASIC THINGS in learning how to play the guitar.

The word BASIC here means IMPORTANT THINGS that will assist you in your PROCESS of learning how to play the GUITAR.

  1. My son used to take a guitar class, and unfortunately, he needed to quit because we moved. We really don’t have any guitar class in our area so are there any recommended intermediate online class for my son?

I personally am thinking it’s time for me to learn the guitar, I love both of the acoustic and electric sounds of the guitar.

This site is very easy for me to understand and follow step by step, so I can learn the basics from this site with my son’s assistance since my son is a busy teenager. I can use one of his guitars, and he has both acoustic and electric. It’s better for beginner to start learning acoustic guitar, right?

I think I need to get a tuner. My son usually asked to his teacher or taking it to the guitar shop for tuning. For me, personally, I don’t trust my ear. I know I don’t have any absolute pitch or scale.

Also, I have a four years old son too. When is the best age to start learning the guitar?

Thank you for your help and support!

    • Hi Ryubi,

I love the zeal of your son wanting to learn guitar playing at that tender age. Personally I did it at teenage and it was easy because I had all the time and energy. Older people also learn the skill but takes longer than teenagers because of many commitment. Early Teenage is a good age to start guitar training however if you didn’t have chance in early life you can still do it now.

For your son I will recommend secret teacher online training which is well structured and has downloadable lessons which you can store in your PC.

  2. Great post. Love your passion for music. I like the posts and information that you have provided in your website. This gives me a greater urge to learn how to play the guitar and learn more about music. I’d request if you have any more videos I’d like to watch them.

    • Thank you, James, for your comment it motivates me to know that this website has important information to you and others. Yes, am in the process of creating more videos for my learners and I hope you will enjoy them. I hope you have already watched the ones that are already available.
